Surgery

Yesterday was my surgery and I'm glad I can say everything went well. The day before surgery, my doctor checked my pregnancy hormone levels and found that they had increased and were fairly high, which meant my body was continuing to produce it and did not recognize that it needed to miscarry. Basically it was a confirmation that surgery was the correct choice for my situation.

I went in yesterday at 9:30 to get prepped. This included paperwork, taking vital signs, getting an IV, and talking with the anesthesiologist (is that how you spell that?). That was done by 10:30 which is when my surgery was tentatively scheduled but I didn't get into the OR until 11:30. But I had Matt to keep me company and to try to keep my mind off the fact that I was starving (I don't do well skipping breakfast!). Plus the nurse gave me heated blankets to keep me warm...hospitals are freezing!! When I did get into the OR I was out in a few minutes. The next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room. I had several blankets because the nurse said I was shivering after the surgery, there's a surprise :). By the time I was fully aware of everything, I had been in recovery for 45 minutes. I drank some juice and ate some crackers and was feeling pretty good. So they wheeled me out in a wheelchair and Matt and I went home.

Since then I've parked myself on the couch or the bed. I've been really lucky in recovery because I haven't had any nausea or cramping and my bleeding has been pretty light. I haven't had to take any of the pain meds and I'm actually feeling pretty good. I honestly think the worst part of it all was the IV. That needle was huge and it hurt!

Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. I think this whole process was made easier by knowing how many people care about and love Matt and me.

And Happy 23rd Birthday to Susan yesterday! I hope it was a good one and that your ice cream cake was delicious!

We love you all!!
