Field Trip up Butterfield Pass

Friday was a miraculous day because Matt and I both had the day off...that rarely happens! So we decided to drive up Butterfield Pass because I've never been up there. It was a bumpy, switch-backy road but thankfully we had Matt's dad's truck...yay for four wheel drive! At the mid point of the pass, you can continue driving back down the mountain and end up in Herriman or you can turn and go further up the pass. At the very top you can see the Kenicott Copper Mine aka the ginormous hole in the ground...aka the Mines of Moria.

This picture does not do justice to seeing it in person.
After taking in the view for a few minutes, we turned the mountain into a driving range :)

Aside from the copper pit, just taking in the view of the valley was awesome. We could see as far north as Ogden and as far south as Payson. I could even see the Y on the mountain in Provo and I thought that was pretty cool.

There's Utah Lake in the distance. I tried to zoom in enough to see the Y but it didn't show up so you get this picture instead.
Here are the Oquirrh Mountains which is where Butterfield Pass goes through. This is the mountain range we see in Tooele. In fact, there's Tooele off in the distance in the next picture.

And last but not least, here is our squirrel friend that Matt named "Jitters," enjoying his afternoon snack while sitting in a weed by the road.
